What a week.

Meet Mingus.

He's a recent addition to the family.  We got him from the Humane Society in December, shortly after my cat Francis passed away.  We thought that it would be fun to have a young, healthy and adventurous cat.  He has been an absolute joy to have around.

However, his adventurous side got the better of him this week.  Mingus jumped over our tall, wooden fence, into the neighbors' yard and had a rather violent run in with their two dogs.  After a six hour trip to the pet emergency room we learned that he had a dislocated his leg and torn tendons.  He was going to have to lose his leg.

So, Thursday he spent the day drugged up, with his leg in a giant split looking really sad.  Friday was the big day and he got his leg amputated by a lovely vet who also had a three legged cat.  She assured me that he would get along just fine after a few days.

So, now he's home and recovering.  I think wearing the cone is depressing him more than losing a leg.  In one week he is free of the cone and in two we'll be able to get the sutures taken out and he should be getting around pretty well by then.  Just a bit funny looking until he figures out his gait and his hair grows back.  Now I am the proud owner of a three legged cat.  It can only help add to his charm.

  1. Awh, the poor thing. I hope he gets better soon and doesn't have too much trouble with only 3 legs.

  2. He is absolutely beautiful. Poor thing, I know what you mean about him being more depressed by the cone than the injury. Our cat Ming was bitten by a snake and has to wear the cone for the next week while the gaping wound beneath his jaw heals. O, the similarity in our cats' names just occurred to me haha.. Well Mingus is very fortunate to have a loving human like you :)
