It's sunny somewhere

So, two nights ago it snowed- in March- a couple days after spring officially started.  I prefer the snow to the endless rain, but it sure isn't making our spring very spring-like.  However I realize that other parts of the country are enjoying much more balmy weather so I decided to make my first sundress of the year.  I found this dress pattern while thrifting on the coast....

Isn't she just adorable?
It's so simple, yet so incredibly cute.  I don't usually sew from patterns because I like to design my own, but this one cannot be beat.  I used a vintage tapestry I scored from Village Merchant for the fabric and burgundy bias tape for the shoulder straps.  Here it is...

I just posted it up on Etsy.  I'm looking forward to making more out of a variety of fabrics, but I love the bohemian look of the dark floral.  Hurry up spring!  I want to trade in my sweaters for sundresses.

My new wheels

Check out my new wheels....

Just kidding- though I would totally drive this car.

I just got a new bike!  A lovely old Schwinn Varsity.  My first 10 speed actually (I feel like such a big girl now).  Now I just need a basket and I'm good to go.

This is my new theme song- Bicycle Race by Queen

Party likes it's 2012

I was on browsing more of the fall shows for inspiration and came upon the completely wacky and wonderful photos of the Meadham Kirchhoff show.  The models looked like Mrs. Ziggy Stardust at a rave.  I would love to get an invite to that party.

Some of them were way over the top and some of them were quite wearable.  I especially love the sequin suit.

Take a little look see....

Okay, I'm warning you... this last one is truely bizarre.  This is how they chose to end the show.  I wonder what planet she is supposed to be from.

I love how truely weird the show is- the mashup of color, the giant fur tails, the makeup, the haphazard neon wigs.  I would love to know what music they were playing as the girls walked down the runway.  They must have had a total blast putting this show together.  See the rest of the show HERE.

And I'll leave you with a David Bowie video in which he is wearing an amazing quilted pantsuit.

House of Holland brightens my day

Spring is just starting to show it's true colors here in Portland.  Buds are sprouting on trees and bulbs are pushing their way out of the ground, though the rain and clouds are still here for a few months.  I was checking out the shows from fashion week and so many looked so glum and dark when all I want to see is a celebration of color after dealing with the dreary winter months.  Then I came upon House of Holland....

super bright colors
oversized houndstooth
retro shapes

be still my heart.

thanks for brightening my day, Mr. Henry Holland!
